Skoda Octavia gearbox issue

I have a 1.2 lt petrol 151 Skoda Octavia which is leaking gearbox oil. Is this a common problem with Skoda. My mechanic is telling me to bring back to dealer but out of warranty by 8 months . 93k kilometres on the clock
