DPF EGR issues

    Hi

I had EGR removed over a year ago in my skoda Octavia. Everything was going OK but now the exhaust light on the dashboard keeps popping out again. I would give the car a good run for 15 min and the light is gone, however pops up more frequent now. Nearly every two / three weeks.

    Any ideas?

You need to get the car to a garage to be connected to a diagnostic computer to have the fault code scanned. This will identify where the problem may be. It could be a sensor or component.

I had it scanned and results came back with other faults 01309 and 00778.
    Nothing about valve or related.

Instead of removing the DPF and EGR, just install an oil fumes catch can.

The EGR recycles the exhaust gases back through the engine, to control combustion temperature and reduce the Nox gases produced. With the exhaust gas going back through the engine, oil fume particles are carried with it and eventually block up the EGR and inlet with oily sludge.

The catch can has a filter to remove almost all the oil particles before the gas goes back into the engine, stops the sludge building up, stops your EGR valve getting blocked.

I have an oil fumes catch can installed on my Toyota Fortuner (Hilux estate) here in Australia. I drain it every 5000km and get about 70ml of oil from it and 30ml of water from cold start ups in the morning, condensation.

It is easy to install yourself, doesn't void warranty and gives you peace of mind.

One example is the 4.5L twin turbo V8 landcruiser 200 series here. the left turbos always seem to have issues, because its the side the EGR gases run through. Toyota charges $$$$'s in the thousands for a new turbo to temporarily solve the problem when all it needs is a catch can to stop the oil fumes getting by.

Hers is a video of all the crap that my catch can caught after about 4200km of driving.
