I need to block off an internal door and have it finished, plastered , painted etc. 3 plasterers I asked for a price said that they would have to do the whole wall, rather than just the newly slabbed section. Is this normal, ? I know sometimes it can be difficult to blend but would they have to skim the whole wall?

Yes you may always see the shape of the door in the wall if you don't plaster more than just the door. If its plaster board, i would take off the board above the door (both sides) and go floor to ceiling with the new slab, then scrim tape the seams and get the wall plastered.
