Air India Express takes some approach lights and a wall with it en-route to Dubai

    Air India Express flight IX-611 from Tiruchirappalli to Dubai made contact with numerous approach lights as well as a wall past the runway end. The flight continued for 4 hours before being informed of the accident it subsequently diverted to Mumbai for a safe landing, there were no injuries however the airframe sustained substantial damage.

    1000ft past the end of the runway. Wall 5ft high and the pilots say they didn't realise there had been a problem? Hmmmmm

    Sounds like the crew kept on going in the hopes they could get away with a fluffed takeoff. In the air 4 hours, cockpit voice recorder would have been overwritten so they can say what they like about it. Lucky they didn’t have an explosive decompression with that much damage. There have been a few cases out of India recently that wouldn’t inspire great confidence in me to fly with the local carriers.

    There's no way that aircraft clipped the wall or the engines and undercarriage would have been damaged.
    That's puncture damage, likely caused by the antenna puncturing the lower fuselage. The damage to the wall was probably caused by the localiser antenna falling on it afterwards.
    Also looking at the second picture you can see the seat track from the forward lower cargo compartment, the floor beams the seat track is mounted on is primary structure, that aircraft suffered quite substantial structural damage in that incident.
    Also there is no way the crew would have been able to pressurise the aircraft with a gaping hole like that, what on earth were they thinking of flying for four hours like that...?
    Crazy stuff...

    The crew claim they heard nothing or saw nothing amiss. They flew for 4 hours. The cockpit recorder only has the last 2 hours of flight. India is a place where you chance your arm when something goes wrong to try avoid the blame, is the sense I have of working with their firms.

    Isn't the Center Wing Fuel Tank above this damage area. Is this not a job for the composite repair team? Maybe there is no damage to the pressurized skin?

    My bad, I thought I was looking at damaged floor track in that picture, maybe it is just the jagged edge of a composite panel.
    I also wrongly thought thought the damage was further forward than it actually appears to be.
