Is there a logo on the cap ? looks like the cap of a power steering reservoir or some such.

    Window washer lid?

No logos on it. It's small enough. Reason I'm asking is that my "check coolant" warning came on yesterday morning and it was low (72k on clock, first time ever low). I topped it up and checked there now and it's fine.
Don't think this could be related though (apparently this engine can suffer from a "one-time" coolant level drop)?

Ummm....check your engine bay to see where it could fit.

The o ring and the nut style cap would make me think it's off a pressurized system or container so might well be coolant related.

Can't see much in the engine bay like many modern cars...

It might not be off my car at all. Hopefully not anyway.
Sure the belly pan would most likely catch it if it was?

Is there a part number on it anywhere?

    No.

I would say it's got something to do with liquid given the orange o ring. It's not from your rad or aircon is it?

You'll have to do your best to have a look around your engine bay regardless of the amount of space in there.

Looks like a water drain plug for the rad

Lick the top and see if it tastes of coolant or window washer

Some petrol cans have a second smaller opening to allow air in, and the petrol to flow out faster without gurgling.

It looks like a cap from one of those.

Edit: on second thoughts.. that nut like shape ... it might not be from a petrol can.

Yeah, it's too small to be from something like this.

The only markings on it are the letters "ADC" on the side of it.

Did you find out what it was OP?

No, never did find out what it was.
I'm guessing it wasn't out of my car after all.
The bins were collected the same morning, maybe it fell out of the bin lorry or something.

To me it looks like the cap off an ad-blue filler. If your Skoda has one of should be beside the diesel fuel cap IIRC.
