Surveillance footage from a doorbell security camera captured the heartbreaking moment a toddler was left abandoned outside a stranger's home in the middle of the night in a suburb of Houston, Texas.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office released the 23-second video on Thursday in hopes the public can help identify the 2-year-old boy and the adult who left him behind.

The footage shows a woman carrying two bags and holding a toddler in the air by his arm as she runs toward the front door of a home in Spring, Texas, some 25 miles north of Houston, on Wednesday night around 8:20 p.m. local time. When she reaches the front entrance, the woman puts the child down, repeatedly rings the door bell and knocks several times. She then drops the bags she was carrying, runs back to her parked white vehicle and drives away, leaving the little boy behind.

According to the sheriff's office, authorities received a 911 call from someone who said she went to answer a knock at her door and found a child standing there with no adult.

The little boy was not injured and "appears to be in good health," the sheriff's office said

Smiling whilst she does it too. If you don’t want your child ffs you could probably have put him into foster care. Now she’ll be charged with abandonment/neglect of a child. Bet she wasn’t expecting in a million years to be caught so clearly on CCTV.

I don't know, I find that pretty sad tbh. Obviously that woman saw no way out and that was the best plan she could come up with to avoid the shame of officially surrendering her child. Not everybody has that strength.
I hope the child finds a good home and whatever that woman is going through, I hope she gets the help she needs.

Edit: the father lives next door.

"Authorities later determined the identity of the little boy and his family after his father saw the video and "immediately recognized the child as his son," Spencer told reporters at a press conference Thursday. The father, whom authorities did not name, lives next door to the house where his son was dropped off.

Investigators learned that the father had received a text from the child's mother, who was in the hospital at the time. The text said a friend would bring the toddler to his house on Wednesday in the early afternoon. When that didn't happen, the father assumed the mother's plans had changed and he left his residence for the evening, according to Spencer."

The woman seen in the surveillance video dropped the little boy off at the wrong home. The woman is not the mother of the child and authorities are not releasing her identity at this time, Spencer said

You don’t abandon your child just like that smiling while you do it , it’s nothing short of cruel.

If you are struggling fine but get some help rather than taking out on the child.

At the very least adopt the child away or put him/her into foster care if you genuinely can’t cope.

Or if you can’t or won’t do that then leave them somewhere safe like a hospital or church or police station.

That's heartbreaking. Two year olds know their mothers. :(
Poor Lil kid. Hope he gets a loving home.

    So outrage over then?

Well if you surrender your child you're obviously quite unwell. When you're desperate and facing such a decision, you're most likely not acting 100% rational. You know what you'd do and I know what I'd do but Texas is a pretty conservative place with very little support networks for people that can't cope anymore.

I'm glad the child is in good health and will find a loving home.

    Yep.

Wrong house. Father has kid. Mother is in hospital.

Friend was a moron not to wait for someone to answer the door.

I wouldn't call the woman in the footage a "friend"

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that's not how you handle a toddler?

Hope she faces charges of some sort tbh, it could have been any nutter or nonce who answered that door like.

If i was hoping a friend would drop my child off somewhere, the least id expect is that theyd wait until the child was safely with the correct adult.

That so called friend is a ninny.

I can think of a million places safer to leave a toddler!
