If you have a Seat Arona / Seat Ibiza

Does anybody have a Seat Arona or Ibiza from 172 onwards and if so, have you found brake grinding noise in the cabin when breaking, particularly at low speeds?

I have a new 182 and the grinding sound is awful and driving me insane. The dealer says “it’s fine and normal in these cars” and the independent mechanic hears it and says “no way, something is wrong but I won’t touch it because of warranty”.

    Help please!

Hi! That’s my plan, it’s going in next week to another garage (Seat dealer) to be checked. Just curious if others had this same “normal issue”

Jesus it doesn't say much for your independent mechanic.. as a mechanic myself yes I fully understand the warranty issue.. but removing a wheel and inspecting the brake pads and discs all round certainly won't void any warranty..maybe a chip of gravel stuck in there .. now as for removing or replacing parts that would not be ok (warranty wise)
Again the first seat dealer should have quickly identified the issue similar to what your independent mechanic identified. But he then failed to inspect adequately to actually determine the cause... as per your second post you will now simply have to present the vehicle to a second seat garage... not good for the first garage and I wouldn't be too impressed with your independent guy either..
Warranty should cover fine as its brand new but down the road be careful as brakes are down to a wearing serviceable part that is not usually covered under warranty. (Brake pads only) but I would think that your issue is most likely something very minor..

See it's a lot easier for the independent mechanic to agree with you for a whole host of reasons, none of which are necessarily because your brakes are noisy. He didn't not want to touch it because of the warranty, he didn't want to touch it because there's no incentive for him to do so.

It's not something I've seen exclusively with the Ibiza but you'll often find in some modern cars that the cabin is so quiet and isolated from engine noise, wind noise etc compared to older cars that you are much more exposed to noises like brake friction than you would be used to hearing, but naturally when you are hydraulically compressing graphite into iron to slow down 1500kgs you will get a little friction noise.

That's not to say there isn't a problem with your car though, there could be. You would expect the issue to be obvious if it was there though.

Drive another one and see if it’s the same.
