What is actually happening with long delivery times?

I recently ordered a particular Blu Ray boxset that was on Zavvi.com.

I couldn't find it in Dublin for as little money and it wasn't on Amazon at the time (it has been since.)

I ordered it on the 4th and only noticed after that the delivery window was the 12th-22nd October.

What is actually happening here? It was dispatched the same day (I got an email to confirm).

So if they put it in the post/handed it to a courier, how could it possibly be a minimum of 6 working days to get here? It baffles me. Even the cheapest possible royal mail would have it here in three or four working days.

Are they lying about the dispatch date? Are they intentionally paying someone to deliver it painfully slowly just to incentivise premium delivery? It's been 10 working days now and not a sniff.

It's not just Zavvi, it seems to be many websites.
