Hi all, can I get some advice , some of my fellow employees have come and told me my new boss is going around and asking them all their opinion on me. I find this very condescending and he seems to be pushing them to say not nice things and taking words out of there mouth, should I confront him on this ?

Also worth pointing out he’s asked my my opinions on other staff members too .... very unprofessional

Keep your opinions of others to yourself and never mind idle chat from others or the manager.

Gossip in the office can be toxic.

Just come in on time, do a good job, and be a team player.

asking someones opinion on a co-worker is not inherently unprofessional. Its actually fairly easy to project a good impression to your boss of what you are doing, but far harder to fool your co-workers.

My advice is to do your job well, and don't worry about watercooler gossip.

Works both ways from bosses to workers, too.

It is gossip or a formal performance review process. Many such processes rely on feedback from peers and direct reports.

Peer reviews were very common at my last job. As long as you are doing your job properly, then there’s nothing for anyone to moan about.

However, it sounds like the entire feedback process is sloppily managed. It should go without saying that 1-1s between line managers and staff are supposed to be confidential. I’d call attention to that, rather than ‘hey boss, I heard you and Mary were bitching about me’.

So... he's asking everyone about everyone else?
