Not wishing to stir up the usual hoopla in respect of amalgam safety, but in consideration of whitening and having existing amalgams, it seems a cursory reading of research shows there may be some warranted concern here relating to mercury release. Need I be concerned or go ahead without worry?

Ah....bleaching products do release more mercury ions from dental amalgam than water, however and this is the big thing....its at a level so low that it is of no significance and well below the level that could even potentially cause any clinical issues.

There is no need for any concern, however on this topic you will find whatever answer you want on the internet. But if you think about it, there must be million of bleaching proceedures done every years world wide, without any issues, and the vast majority of them would be on mouths with at least some amalgam restorations.
