I'm looking to source opinions from people who know more than me.
What brand of suit represents best value?

I bought a Hugo Boss suit in Germany last year. Spent around 600 euros on it, but the quality is really good.

    Also interested in this.

Getting work bonus next month and would like to put it towards a good suit that will last me a few years.

    Any room for coinage though?

TM Lewin just off grafton street have a great range to suit most budgets and they altered mine for free.
M+S would probably be the best on the high street.

Was speaking to a tailor today around this.
He also recommended M&S as decent quality for the money.
Recommended Giffney as a store and Germanic brands over Italian labels - as the Germanic brands are designed for a broader (less slim) type of typical Irish body. Something I'd not considered before.
Baumner was a brand he mentioned.

Brother rented me a Benetti suit for his wedding this it cost 100euro.

Dude in the shop said if we give them another 120 we could buy them and they would be brand new.

    Best 120 I've ever spent!

Also have a suit from zara which I find decent value for money..

I'm going to put this out there for what it's worth.

I wear a suit about once a year, or less. I'm clueless. So I rocked up to Top Man in Dublin at opening time (a few days before a wedding) and got a slim fit suit for less than €100. It looks like it's tailor made to the untrained eye.

    A few honest points.

    - You asked for value!
    - It's not tailor made, but I'm lean. (not boasting, just the way I'm made and the way I keep myself. I think these shops stock clothing for younger gym minded people than me!)
    - It feels a bit disposable (hardly surprising, I'd say the shirt will last three washes)
    - When you go early in these places you basically have a personal shopper that will go and pick out sizes for you and throw them over the changing room door until you get it right AND they're current and know the current styles.
    - It isn't sweaty or nylon.
    - Good quality new, leather shoes certainly helped, I had them already and were the same price as the suit. Important to bring them along.
    - I still have my wedding suit that was expensive, but is too big for me and seems baggy. The recession must have sorted that out! :)
    - I'm fairly short, so had to nip over to an alteration place to get the kacks taken up, but most have an in-house service to do this if you've time.
    - I think Jack Jones have a similar semi-formal line with a similar service if you go in early enough.
    - I'm not very experienced in buying suits at all. But this worked for me. Wife was pretty impressed when I turned up.
    - Belt needed. No matter how slim you are.

Now, I know there's going to be serious Savile Row aficionado's that will be bent over double at my post, and they will most likely be right!! But it's what I came up with when faced with an emergency suit buying conundrum for one night.

Really depends on what your use for it is and your shape.

I wear suits every day and the best suits I had were hand made by a tailor who came to work. They were reasonably priced but looked a million bucks.

Off the rack, best suit I had was Hugo boss. The trousers were wide fit and the cut was nearly as good as hand made.

Now, I am 6ft 1 and don’t like skinny fit so the likes of burton, top man or most suit shops don’t fit/suit me. I saw some lovely 3 piece suits in the high street suit shops recently but when I tried to put them on it made me feel like giant haystacks.

I got one of the nicest tweed blazers and matching waistcoat in to max. Never had as many compliments on nights out. They were half nothing and was such a great buy.

So, if you need and can afford a hand made suit then that’s the best value but not necessarily the cheapest.

If you are a slim tomregular fit, great value on the high street especially if you like the 3 piece suits that are very popular.

If you have time and aren’t a beanpole, tk max has some great selections and are priced unbeleiveably.

I have a tailor that I go to in Thailand (most are shockingly bad and wouldn’t use them) but every time I go, I get two or three of the nicest suits made.

Its always good to see a menswear shop have their own tailor in shop to do alterations.

That said I've used these guys a few times and they are good.

I wear suits 5 days a week for work .
I've learnt the hard way you pay for what you get .
If I want a suit to last I will buy only a wool suit .
    I've found " suits supply " do a very good range .
It all depends what you want the suit for and how often you are going to wear it.

Bit of a trek! But i got one made up in Thailand 10 years ago for 30 quid iirc. Has lasted a lot longer than ones I've paid hundreds for!

Looking at about 80 quid now but the quality is still brilliant. Shop kept my measurements and shipped a couple more a year later. Great if your going that direction for a holiday

Moss Bros are good and M&S on the high street avoid the likes of best menswear
