Hi, can anybody tell me about the aim scheme in preschool? My son starterd preschool in sept, he’s just turned three. He has been squeezing some of the other kids so the teacher casually suggested that they avail of a teacher through ‘aim’ to help with this behavior. I was shocked and worried initially, naturally enough, but she’s reassured be she has no worries regarding my sons health, just that it’s support for them.. my Sister is advice principal
And reassured me he is a perfectly healthy normal three year old.
so then I feel is she using my son to avail of a government paid teacher for pre school? And is it on his record going forward? I just don’t know anything about it.. and I don’t want him labeled. Any info much appreciated. Thanks

I’m not 100% sure but I think Aim workers are similar to SNAs but for pre schoolers. Someone else with more knowledge will hopefully give you more information. From your child’s point of view, if his behaviour is inappropriate then maybe an Aim worker is a very good idea. I understand not wanting to label your child, he’s very young and quite likely simply adjusting to being around other children. However if he needs help and it’s available grab it with both hands.

The Aims support can just be extra hours for someone already there to give him the extra help, with a lot of things they don't pick it up off the ditch try and find the source. If it's not another kid it could be rouge frustrated employee in the crèche squeezing his arm and he's just passing it on.
Try talking to him which can be hard but try and figure out who's doing it to him.

An AIMS support worker comes into a room not to work specifically with one child, one on one but to be an extra person in the room to lighten the load as such. Yes there needs to be a reason to apply for AIMS, it is a process to go through but no, it will not be ' on your child's record.'
