Buying a used Focus

    Howdy all

Inherited my first car from the brother, but it's in need of replacement soon, and I think what I'm after is a used Focus (probably 1.6 diesel) in the €11k range.

I'm based in Clare, so looking around there, Limerick and Galway. Also my first time buying so my plan is to play it safe and go to a dealer who could offer some sort of warranty/comeback.

Would appreciate any advice on possible issues to watch out for with the model, anything in particular to check for, and dealers that people recommend in the area.

    Thanks!

I'd say you should not buy a 11 grand car first of all if you are only starting to drive.

There are plenty of cars for half the money that will do the job! I'd say you should look to build up your NCB, gain some more experience and then move onto a more expensive car.

Thanks for the input. It’ll be my first time purchasing, not my first car. Have been driving the current one a few years.

The dealer track is a good idea for first time buy.
It will cost more but you get warranty as you said.
Visit some local dealers and see what they have to offer.
Don't buy anything on your first visit, drive 2/3 cars first.

Sheils are the Ford main dealer in Ennis and have a branch in Limerick. I bought my first car from them, and get my current Ford serviced there. They've always been decent any time I've had dealings with them.

Al Hayes, the Skoda dealers in Ennis have a few 1.6 diesel Focus in and around your budget listed at the moment. I've never dealt with them myself but I've heard good things about them.

Both are witin a kilometer of eachother on the Gort road (the Nissan, Renault/Dacia and Toyota main dealers are at various points on the same road, any of which may have what you're looking for - i've never had any dealings with any of them, but since they're in the area they're pobably worth a look)

    Thanks for the replies.

Have looked at those alright phutyle, Al Hayes did seem to have a few. Found a couple old threads on here with some complaints about them, but in fairness they’re a few years old now, and while there were a few not happy with them, there were others saying they had never had a problem. Maybe just part and parcel of being in the used car business?
