Softcopy enough?

    I have been offered a new role which I am very excited about, however for me to be able to start on the day which is preferable to us both, I need to give notice to my current employer by end of this week. The new place has said that it can take up to 5 working days to get a hardcopy but that they will get me a softcopy by end of the week - would this be enough for me to hand in my notice? I don't want to hand in and then the whole thing falls apart

    I assume you mean the new contract? If it's digitally signed, then yes, that's enough. If it's just what they will be signing physically later, then it's just a more detailed non-binding job offer IMO.

    Sorry yes, I left out an important bit :) - it will be the contract.

    My plan is to print out the soft copy, sign\scan it and then email it back to the HR\recruitment team

    Normally you will be given two signed original copies, one for you to keep for yourself, the other to be signed by you and returned.

    Eoin's comment concerning the signature is very important, unless it is somehow signed by them then it is not binding.

    Until the contract of employment has been signed by both you and your new employer it could be withdrawn at any time. I'd be slow to hand in my notice to my current employer until signed contracts had been exchanged. A reasonable new employer should anticipate that your expected start date would be one month (or whatever your current noticwe period is) friom the date the contract is exchanged and signed.
