Need to get a letter from my doctor stating that I am 'fit to work'

Ok so I had a support & supervision session with management at work. I am in new job in creche now over a month.
I was asked to provide confirmation from my GP regarding my fitness to work..I was led to believe this is just standard practice for all new staff.
I presume a medical examination will be required.

Any idea of how I should phrase this request to my GP?
    Many thanks 😊

When you're there, please talk to the GP about your anxiety issues.

Please don't keep ignoring the fact you obviously have severe anxiety and how it's ruining your life.

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I work full time currently, until after 6 o clock in the evenings, it is not really feasible for me to attend for a doctors appointment during my working day.

I have been asked to provide a letter from my doctor stating that I am 'fit to work'. (For which I presume a medical examination will be required).

Just wondering do I have to approach my own G.P. specifically for this, or could I ring the G.P out of hours service for a weekend appointment for a medical examination?

    Many thanks :)

Doc on call or whatever is only for emergencies and they will only give an appointment if they think you have one afaik, any Saturday gps available near you? Usually people are entitled to a few hours off during work hours?

Why have you been asked to provide such a letter?

Have you been out sick or with an injury?
Work usually only ask for that if you have been. It's gonna cost you €50/60 to get it so if they want one for the sake of it I'd be asking them to send me to the company doctor.

Was told it is standard practice for all new employees.

If your job is asking for this, they should be facilitating you and allow time off to attend an appointment. Speak with your manager or HR and explain the situation.

Were you told this and asked to provide a letter BEFORE you began work with the company?

No. Absolutely not. I wondered to myself why I have been asked for this letter at this point, I am in job nearly 2 months.

Have you been given a contract of employment?

    Very weird.

Is this a medical? Medicals are very different to just a standard declaration of health.

I've had medicals in previous jobs, they were paid for by my employer on company time.

    Yes

And does it state anything about the requirement for a medical for fitness to work purposes?

My wife started work on a temporary contract, when she was being made permanent/full-time she had to do a medical.
    Is it something like that?
Surely a fit to work cert would have been needed to do your job before you started?

Again, I wondered the exact same thing myself. I always would have imagined that the employers would have required the 'fit to work' cert from my doctor before I even started the position at all, not nearly 2 months into the job.

Is it possible they currently believe you are not fit for working?

In fairness your posts here over the past three months have been a bit erratic.

You do appear to have extreme anxiety issues and you ignore any comments which ask you to seek help for it.

The company I work for require a Fit to Work be sent in before you start with us
If you miss a certain number of days due to illness you also need to send one in
If you are out with certain illness EG a back injury you have to send this in before you go back on the roster again
We can also request one at any stage from any employee where we feel they may not be fit to work

Got it cleared up with my manager today. Just wants a letter from my doctor stating that I am in good health and that my vaccinations are up to date. That's all :)

Are you going to talk to the doctor about your anxiety issues?

Why do you keep ignoring this topic?

Talking to your doctor and seeking treatment (not necessarily medicine) will greatly improve your life.

How much would you estimate that this medical should cost me?

Why don't you ring the GP secretary in the morning and ask?

To thine own self be true

    Are we being trolled?

On occasion we’ve requested employees to provide this, mostly they are returning from certified leave but also employees who are having specific issues that may affect their work, always facilitated during working hours.
