This will be my first time buying a new car in Ireland.
But have bought new a couple of time in the UK. And with carwow etc the process is even easier now.

Normally in the UK you get 25% off the list price from the garage on a new car.

People in Ireland are telling me you would be lucky to get €750 off the list price.

Can anyone here who has bought a new car or is well versed in the negotiating process tell me how much below the list price I can expect to negotiate to?

For example, the car we are going to buy is a new Hyundai Kona base model which has a list price of €20,995. How much could I realistically expect to pay for that for straight cash. No trade in and no finance.

    €20,245 if you’re lucky.

Discount is relative to popularity and availability.

Take out the phone book and ring all the dealers in it. Tell them your spec and your budget which should be slightly lower than what it is. Some may be open to negotiate and others may not.

Remember new car sales in Ireland are falling through the floor as a result of sterling.

Shop around different dealers have different deals sometimes depending on sales targets, what is in stock, the time of year etc.

In your position you can do a lot of it by phone.

Just call, tell them exactly the model/spec that you want and make it clear you won't be calling back and they can just give you the best price or forget it.

Obviously if you have a lot of time on your hands and want to see a bit of the country eyeballing them may deliver a better result.

Your'e not going to save a fortune but better in your pocket than theirs.

Yes seeing as you have some experience of the UK market you possibly would do well buying there and importing.

    Not a new one though.

There is a dedicated section with all the info. you will need.
