    Hi,

I had an interview yesterday morning, a Saturday which I know is probably unusual. I felt the interview went great and as I have many years of experience I came out thinking there was a good chance I would get the job but now I'm doubting that as I havent heard anything and it's now Sunday afternoon. It's a new job, an RPT contract.

Any opinions? Am I right to start doubting or is there still a possibility?

It seems very quick to assume you haven’t got it. I’d give it more than a day anyway. I doubt you’re the only one that applied for it so there’s probably a few interviews to get through. Did you ask how soon you would know?

I usually do ask, but didnt get a chance to as I asked a different question inquiring about the specifics of the job instead.

They might need to run it by HR on Monday morning. I would give it another day.

Well I got an email this morning to say I wasn't successful. To say I'm feeling disheartened is an understatement.
If I can't get a job when I do the best interview I have ever done, have 7 years experience with excellent references then maybe it's time to call it a day.

Not at all. Back on the horse etc etc.
If you wanted this job there'll be more that you want too and you'll get one also.
Take the positives, you did a great interview and you have excellent references :)

I know you’ve got your answer now (commiserations), but we had interviews for a post of responsibility and they sent letters out to the candidates, so they were all waiting several days to find out. No idea if the successful candidate was told informally before then but I know that the unsuccessful candidates weren’t.

Was it an ETB? This is the time (just hefore midterm) when they hold the interviews for all the people they already have in situ having hired them based on "who you know" at the start of the year, but not actually formally interviewed yet. They have been in the job since August but need to interview to get RPT by Nov. If so then you wouldn't have had a hope. I know my former school and all local schools were holding these interviews over the past week.

No, it was a voluntary secondary. Last year I had 3 interviews in Oct with an ETB and lost 3 days subbing because ot it and only found out later I was most likely not going to get it for the very reason you state above. The system sucks, the department knows it and couldn't care less!
