Paid deposit to UK dealer; invalid VIN on receipt

    Hi,

As the title says I've paid 1,000 euro deposit to dealer in the UK for an A7. They put the wrong VIN on the receipt - one search shows its invalid, another says its a different type of car (a 2012 Allroad).

Is this a big red flag or likely just admin error? Would you be looking to walk away?

The car has 6000 km on it and I am buying from a BMW dealer.

    Thanks,

Did you contact the dealer? It could simply be a clerical error.

I will do. Am getting slight touch of cold feet anyway tbh so this isn’t helping. Just wanted to get the views of people who know about these things before I talk to him.

I'd say it's just a simple clerical error, ask the dealer to run a history check and photo of the V5c. They shouldn't have a problem doing that and both will should have the correct VIN. I'd doubt a franchised dealership of a premium brand would be selling a dodgy car, they have a reputation both with the brand and public to maintain.

So he's sent me the VC5 and it has the same VIN on it. This VIN is not coming back on any searches. Could the VIN have been entered incorrectly on the VC5?

    Thanks,

Ring Audi UK and query it with them.

Good call, just spoke with Audi there and all checks out. the VIN actually did check out through another site - looks like some (or most) of these VIN verification sites are unreliable.
