07 Passat Emissions problem

My 07 B6 Passat. 1.6 failed the NCT today. It failed on the high idle CO emissions, full results were:

    Low idle CO 0.05 vol%, HC 31ppm.
    High idle Lambda 0.99, CO 0.4 vol%, HC 47ppm.

Q1: I was thinking of going to any exhaust experts like Auto Exhausts in Crumlin Dublin, or I‘ve seend Advance Pitstop and Fast Fit which are chain garages offer exhaust repair services. Any thoughts on them, or any garages you know who could work on this? I’m conscious that it could be a number of things and I’m hoping to avoid a situation where the mechanic replaces an expensive part and I still fail my NCT.

Q2: I bought the Passat for 2k in January. Since then I‘ve spent over 3k on it (first it needed a clutch and flywheel replacement, then part of the suspension, then both rear electronic brake calipers, and recently replaced both headlight assemblies). Granted maybe the suspension and the headlight could happen to any car, but should I be looking at scrapping it or finding a used car lot who are willing to take on the emissions work? What’re you’re thoughts.

Thanks in advance just for reading this wall of text.

I couldn't advise what the fault could be but I can definitely tell you not to bring it to advance pitstop or fast fit to get it diagnosed. You need a half decent mechanic.

Those Passats are pure rubbish and I wouldn't recommend one to my worst enemy, although I know it's too late for you now and you're already heavily invested in it.
