storm names question

    hi all
sorry if this has already answered, but im just wondering how the naming of storms in ireland and the uk tallys up with storms coming from the u.s that already have a name, but are out of alphabetical order with our own sequence.
e.g, we've just had storm Callum grace our shores so the next storm to hit will be Deirdre, but at the moment we have ex hurricane leslie in the atlantic and ex hurricane micheal. So what happens if either of these storms hit our shores, do they get renamed for our chronological order, ie deirdre, or do they keep their names because they were hurricanes?
not that it really matters but im just interested!
    thanks!

They keep their names originally assigned to them. Hurricane Ophelia was still called Storm Ophelia when it turned extratropical.

ah ok. So even if we are on storm callum and then storm micheal hits us itll be called micheal. However i presume the one that'd hit us after micheal would be called deirdre, so long as it was named by the uk and ireland met offices.

Yes, it would still be called Michael. If France/Spain/Portugal are affected by a storm that they named before we are affected by the same storm, then we keep the name given by those countries too.
