Ooops...left the sunroof open

As the title implies I made a major error last night and left the retractable sun roof fully open all night. There is now a small lake of water in the car (Nissan xtrail fabric upholstery) I have mopped up the excess water and rubbed down the front seats with towels but any ideas how I should dry it out so it won't end up smelling like a pond...? Thanks in advance..

Wet vac up as much as possible and then hire a dehumidifier and leave it running in the car for a few days.

As per all the posters (except banie01) wet vac, dehumidifier, it will take a good few days to get all - in meantime us other car if available.

Your local tool rental place should have one, or a carpet shampooer will do the same job.

On a, hopefully, more helpful note...

Once you have it dry, kitty litter will help absorb any smelliness. Just spread it about on any surface that was wet, leave it overnight, and sweep/hoover it up the next day.

breadsoda is great at absorbing odours too!

+1 on the kitty litter for moisture it is really good at absorbing odour too.

I wonder how wet it is. If it’s gone into the sound deadening then you have a big problem. I’d definitely get a dehumidifier in there ASAP.

You'll must likely have to lift all the carpets and insulation from below to fully dry it out. The dehumidifier and wet vac will get the surface water but with the rain last night it'll be deep down. The advantage of lifting the carpet is you can check if any connectors got wet and dry them.

Used kitty litter in an old pair of tights -absorbs moisture and odour - over the weekend and let it air out all day yesterday...good as new again..

The driver and passenger seats got the worst of it...must lift the carpet though to make sure..

A dehumidifier can get all moisture out. Even hidden moisture will evaporate once the dehumidifier gets the humidity down.

Best results will be if you can park the car in the sun (if any) so it warms up a bit so the relative humidity increases. Makes the dehumidifiers job much easier if the air in the car is warmed up a bit.

Also, if the car has air conditioning, keep it on. That will continue the de-humidification while the car is on.

Air Con on and lash heat up should help a lot.
