So im seeking a decent broadband provider now that im out of contract with eir.

Pure telecom is one that keeps popping up for solid customer care.
I believe they have a fair usage policy of 1TB like most but they told me via a call today that they dont enforce this.

Im very keen to hear from anyone with pure telecom.

    Doesn't look too promising.

I was with them for over a year. Basically, you'll get from Pure exactly what you had from Eir from your house to the local exchange. Pure uses Eir copper infrastructure. From the exchange, you'll be routed to the BT infrastructure whereas previously you would have been routed to Eir infrastructure.

If you have a service issue, the folks in Pure will do what they can to resolve basic stuff, such as the router and settings. If there's a problem on your line and they'll have to call Eir for that. Similarly, if there's a problem in the BT space, they'll depend on BT to solve that.

So, as long as you know that Pure are basically reselling other providers' services with all the 'handing-off' and turf issues that entails, they're no worse than others. Accessing their help desk is probably better than most, and appears local. When I was with them, their price for newbies was unbeatable. I left them because the introductory offer for Eir newbies through OneBigSwitch then became unbeatable.

I have been with Pure for two years now, on fibre optic, and I find them very good to deal with. The one time I needed to call them regarding a loss of service, they attended to it promptly. I had a "wee party" when I got rid of Eircom, who must have the country's worst customer service !

The modem routers they supply are terrible pieces of crap

It’s excellent in comparison to what I had from Vodafone! That regularly crashed and they told me it was a problem with my devices and not the modem. Pure’s modem gives me excellent WiFi without issue..... on the same devices.

The Technicolor router is basic but it works. I didnt like the fact that it only provided a 2.4ghz wifi. However, its manageability for most users will be adequate. Its performance on the 2.4 band was no worse that I'm finding on the Eir F2000 I'm using now.

Pure will allow you to use your eisting router if you prefer it, but that may have downstream issues if you have problems.

I wasn't aware, that they have any at all. Just saying.

Why is it on their website that it is all unlimited, no excess usage charges, yet when they ring and you ask, they tell you there’s a 1TB cap? Then start lying about everyone having it. Not a good start, so I think I’ll look elsewhere.

1GB cap is miniscule, are you sure that's not 1TB?

Sorry, it is of course 1 TB. Still too small in this day and age.
