Own room

I was just wondering how long teachers have waited until they got their own room? It seems like a rite of passage in Ireland. I am currently teaching in a very overcrowded secondary school where I'd say there are easily 20 full-time teachers waiting (in front of me) to get their own room.

It is a big school and anyone with mobility issues or who is very overweight would never manage to trek all around the school.

It's much more difficult to timetable assigning particular rooms, so if your school is already overcrowded, I wouldn't be holding my breath.

It's not just an accessibility issue. There are huge advantages to having even your own cupboard in a base room to hold your materials etc..

In the school I went to only some science and practical teachers had their own room, others would all float between different classrooms.
