Are vintage comic books (shipped from US) exempt from VAT/Customs?

Comics fall under the 9% rate. If it's a one off very low purchase they may not notice and not charge Vat (also depends of how they are declared by the person/company selling them to you). If the value is noticeable and properly declared they are going to charge you 9% on entry. All this only applies to purchases from outside the EU. Within the EU so long as you are not Vat registered you will be charged Vat by the seller based on the rates of their country.

In any case check with other people better informed about this. ITH
