BMW 3 series "limp mode"

For over a year now our old 2.0 litre BMW 2006 Petrol 3 series goes into limp mode but only after a hard drive on motorways.

My local back yard mechanic last year couldn't find anything wrong but he only tested it on minor country roads.

Anyway one year later and it's getting worse. It's fine on local short drives and the limo mode warning light is on constant now.

I called my mechanic and he doesn't seem to be interested in resolving it, he also sujjested the car is finished.

My wife loves the car we had it from new. Only 147k miles on clock.

    Any suggestions appreciated

Run diagnostics test or bring it to an BMW indie to check it over.

If you going into limp home the car should be storing error codes, which should give you direction on the issue, you need a good scanner to get at all modules on BMW, did you mechanic get any error codes / have a decent scanner?

My father had the exact same car (same year too!) and his did the exact same thing. It turned out to be the valvetronic motor on his. If you google it you'll see it's a common issue. I replaced it myself and the car ran fine after until he traded it in a few years later.
