Magic Eye Issues with Sky HD

    Hi,

I installed a SKY IO adapter at the rear of my Sky HD box, powered on RF output on the box via installer menu, There's a coaxial cable running from the IO to my attic to a amplifier where sky is ran into 3 x different rooms using magic eyes.
The picture is coming through fine but the lights on the eyes are not working. I by-passed the amp as a test and connected the coax straight to one of the rooms and it works fine (Light on magic eye and can change channel).
I notice a port on the amp in the attic for power and am wondering if this is the culprit? Does the amp need more power to power up the eyes on a HD Box? Previously this worked fine when signal was coming from old Sky+ box.

Could anybody shed light on this please?

    Thanks

    Adrian

What type of amp are you using in the attic?
Is the amp currently powered from a socket?

Initially it would appear the amp is blocking the power-passing part of the setup.

Why are you using an io adapter if cable is coming from RF2 on sky box!!! You don'.t need the adapter!!

If its a new sky hd box that has no rf out then you need an io adapter with its own psu.

I'm not sure of the make but it's one that is powered from the box via coaxial cable (currently no direct electric power from socket going to it)

You need to power the io adapter separately, rf2 is not powerful enough.

    see this

Thanks, So I can run coaxial cable from io to attic and then connect this in attic and run coaxial to other rooms and connect magic eyes accordingly?

I need the io adapter as it's the 1tb box with no rf output port

No that replaces the current IO link at the rear of your Sky box, the difference is this has its own power supply.

Can you check to see what amp you have in your attic?

Oh right , but for cosmetic reasons I would like to have only one cable to attic from sky box and distribute from there. I have a power socket in attic.

The amp in the attic is powered from sky box so I'm not sure of what power that is but it looks like it doesn't have enough to 'power up' eyes

No extra cabling required, that Triax power supply simply plugs into the IO link.

These are a group of amplifiers designed to work with Sky eyes/IO links, power via cable from the box or local socket - https://www.gionlineshop.com/product_result.php?gID=57&type=top&group=distribution-amplifiers&sm=3.

Are you sure that there would be no extra cabling required? If that triax power supply is plugged into IO link at back of sky box, then other cables that will be feeding other rooms must connect to this ?

No, they will remain as they are, connected to the amp in the attic.

Oh right I understand now, so I run the coaxial from this IO to amp in the attic and route as normal from attic to other TV's / Eyes?

So The IO that I currently haver is redundant so? Its similar to this:

What I'm wondering here is, can I power up this amp in the attic as there is a 12v power input on the amp?
Would this create additional power to work the eyes in the other rooms rather than buying the new IO with power for connecting to Sky Box?

No you need to boost signal at source, ie right next to sky box but we still dont know what kind of amp you have in loft or is it used as a splitter ie no power used.

please see attached photos of attic amp.

So power to this will not work?

I'd test it with a power supply directly to the amp, there appears to be sufficient power from the Sky box when you bypass the amp as you mentioned earlier. A power supply direct to the amp should give the signal enough of a boost to the other 3 rooms.

Thanks. I'll give it at try and will report back.

    Thanks to all for advice!

I cannot get an adaptor plug to fit the amp (I Checked with a local TV shop & Computer repair shop) so I bit the bullet and purchased a new io from Amazon with Power!

My guess would be the power supply that comes with the I/O link will also work with the link amp in the attic (12V DC / 100mA)

Watch this space.....I'll report back early next week.

    Thanks!

*Update* So I received the IO link today with the power supply- Set it up and connected to rear of HD box - Reconnected amp in attic- All other 3 rooms feeding from amp are working (Magic eyes included).

    Thanks to all for help!
