Heard it also, but only on new diesels.

There not going to touch diesel. Maybe new cars and I'd even doubt that. If they wanted an immediate impact on the amount of diesel versus petrol/hybrid they'd allow business to claim the vat back on petrol instead of leaving it only on diesel.
This isn't good news for Toyota.

It might include imports as they'll be newly registered. Won't have any impact on imports, still thousands cheaper than buying an Irish Diesel. It'll add about €60 to importing at 2018 3 series diesel, still 10k cheaper than one here.

Just confirmed - 1% surcharge on VRT for diesel vehicles, across all VRT bands.

Does that mean that VRT refund on export of second hand diesel vehicles will also be higher by 1% ?

Not clear if it's on new diesel cars or any diesel cars bought into the state.
If I bring in a used diesel from the UK next week will I have to pay 1% more VRT?

It's very clear to me, it's on VRT. VRT is payable on new cars and on imports.

Assume it will come into force from midnight tonight?

As harsh as it may sound you’ll pay say a €100 more on €10000 VRT as opposed fo paying another €10000 more if you go to a dealership in Dublin that sells Approved Used Cars imported from the UK and probably bought for less than any regular person would be able to source it for.

Is not that you will pay 1% more on the revenue calculated value of the car not 1% more on the VRT amount?
i.e. revenue value car at €30K, VRT is 24% you pay €7.2K if VRT is increased 1% you pay €7.5K.

That is correct. I was just about to update my post. Still its rather insignificant increase when compared to the savings to be had.

Anyone know what the story would be for someone who made a deal and paid a deposit on a new 191 diesel this morning before the announcement was made. How will the 1% increase affect them? I presume the dealer will say that the increase was outside of their control and will need to be added to the price?

    Thanks

    D.

It's probably in the small print on the order sheet that you got from the dealer just like they have when the manufacturers announce price increases. However I'd hope that the dealer/manufacturer would absorb the increase on any deals already done given it's not a huge increase rather than risk cancelling an order.

Is that date confirmed? (VRT appointment end of month)

I'm sure you can cancel the deal unless they are preparing it in the factory. I paid deposit on one car but changed my mind and had it refunded in full.
