Home Dialysis versus Hospital Dialysis

Hi. I am in end stage kidney failure and am being preped for Dialysis.. while awaiting transplant. I need to make a decision as to which type of dialysis I will go for. I am very worried about making the "wrong" decision.
I am 40 and I have 2 small children (2yrs and 5 years) I work full time and so does my husband. His work requires him to travel a lot and stay away over night a few times a month.
I am leaning towards hospital dialysis but I know it will be harder on my body. I am an hour dtive from the dialysis unit.
I would just like to hear about people's experience of dialysis... positive or negative.
    Thanks

    Hi

This is tough for you but doable either way and I'm sure before long you'll get into the routine.

My Dad was on dialysis for 8 years. dialysis was his lifeline. He opted for the hospital and went 3 times a week - there was a volunteer taxi service that brought him (they were brill) he opted for hospital because he was frail and it was a better option to prevent infection.

I believe though the home option is safe, and you can be hooked up for longer periods and fit it around your schedule and I believe there is a good system for delivering equipment etc

It really depends on yourself - perhaps being in the clinical environment for the period is easier to cope with - Dad preferred to be in there with the other patients, reading chatting and using the time to refresh in a weird sort of way -

I wish you well and hope you get a donor kidney soon.
