Suddenly stopped receiving satellite signal

    Hi all,

    Pretty new to this,

Living in an apartment, have a smart TV and in the apartment already are those cord wires connected to a white box which has a small internet type cable running out of it

Been getting satellite channels (free view) for quite some time like more 4, BBC, itv. Etc

Came home tonight and knocked on the TV to find no satellite signal at all but nothing had changed my end

Went through the whole process again of trying to to search satellites and stations etc and although the satellites appear on the menus , they do not pick up any stations at all

I did a full factory reset too to see if it would help

    Any ideas ?

Possibly something beyond my control outside at the satellite end ?

    Cheers all !

    I haven't to be honest

It dawned on me though that there is a satellite on my apartment at the back balcony and I seem to be one of the very very few with one, I'm wondering if the apartments didn't actually come with them and mine just happened to have it from a previous occupier (rental apartment)

The white box it's connected through is the one with the 0818 number on it that leads back to sky.

Any suggestions with this lads ?

Still at a lose with it, not finding anything, even moved a cable to what I think is a direct cable from satellite to TV and still nothing (I don't know a lot about these things as you can see)

1st of all, put everything back the way you found it. moving cables aint gonna fix it if it was working yesterday!

Can you post a picture(s) of the white box that you referred to in your earlier posts.

Was there when I got here.

Seemed to be connected up to freeviews which I was watching away

Was able to find sky channels but not access them

That is a fibre optic distribution system. The satellite signals are converted to optical at the dish then distributed to various apartments. Your white box then converts them back traditional copper cables.

Either the optical converter at the dish has failed, the fibre cable has been broken or they have deliberately disconnected it. I'm afraid you won't be fixing it yourself. Have you tried calling the number?

The number used to be for sky digital according to the internet. I don't have a provider or the likes

When you say deliberately disconnected, is that at a computer in an office end or actually someone at my property pulling wires externally ?

I note the satellite dish on my back balcony has two black fibre cables running from it to the living room but are not actually plugged into anything

The two black cables you see coming from that white box go to the TV , so whatever signal must've been coming from that optical cable ?

So I'm wondering is there something I can do my end ? Such as if I had say an old sky plus box lying around, I could hook that up to the black wire from the satellite dish and use that to get signal on the sky system with basic free view without a sky card ?

You need a professional, your not fixing that yourself

Physically disconnecting. I assume it is a Sky installation so if nobody is subscribing they may disconnect.

The dish on your balcony doesn't sound like it is the dish that is used for the distribution system. It sounds like if you can get someone to extend those two black cables to your TV you'd get your satellite stations back.

The cable from the dish do run to near my TV, is it as simple as a direct wire from the dish to the TV or should there be a decoder box or sat box of some kind ? But then again it's a full smart soarview built in tv etc

Were the two black cables from the white box connected directly to the TV? If so you can replace them on the TV with the cables from the dish and check your satellite channels.

Tried running one of those black cables into the back of the TV, didn't pick up anything

There's a second black cable but sadly won't reach.

Walked out this morning and saw two lads from sky doing a lot of work so I asked them the question and they said their working on a communal dish changing the power supply etc so most likely will come back when their done.

They started the other day so he reckons he's working on said system.

Fingers crossed when their done it returns

But a thank you to all you who helped too !

Just out of curiosity more than anything but what are those two black cables coming from the white box connected to? The ones labelled Receiver 1 and 2.

They were going to my TV with only one plugged into the TV and thus I had free satellite

The two coming from the satellite on my back balcony go nowhere and seem to do nothing at all.

The feed seems to be coming from that optical cable I guess.

Weird set up that I don't get but hopefully when the boys are finished working on the system it all comes back

There are different LNBs (the thing at the end of the arm on the dish) and different systems around so it's difficult to make an assessment of what's wrong and why the other dish did not work without physically seeing it. Hopefully they have fixed your system by now.

No idea what system it is and I am very useless at satellite systems as we've found out here !

I reverted everything back to the way it was before and with the lads from sky finished working in the complex I'm back in action !

    Thanks again !

Astra 28.3e or whatever number it is that has all the goodies doesn't seem to have a signal back but some other satellite threw up a handful of stations like Dave and yesterday

Maybe the guys are still working on it. Anyway hopefully I'll get back around to looking at this again at the weekend and hopefully it's all back then
