    A friend of mine told me that you don’t need to pay tax on rent if it does not exceed €9000, this seems strange.
    Coukd anyone confirm or dismiss.i

    Think that's if you're renting a room in your own house, ie owner-occupier.

    Not unless they are availing of the rent a room exemption which comes with its own terms and conditions. If it's a standard rental property then someone is in for a shock eventually.
