Etiquette when quitting job

I want to leave my job at Eddie Rockets, as I started on Friday and had a really bad experience during a 11h night shift. It really affected my mental health. I'm planning on going in to hand in my notice today, but I'm not sure what to do/not do. I'm scheduled to work 2 shifts on saturday and friday from 8pm-7am, and sunday from 6pm-10pm, this weekend, but I'm not sure if I'm still expected tp work those days if i quit today. I genuinely don't want to work there anymore as I come home tired and on the verge of tears, and i dont think its worth the money. How should i go about quitting my job?

Just talk to HR or your manager and tell them you want to leave. Nothing more complex than that. Be prepared for them possibly trying to get you to stay and whether you are convinced you want to leave or not. Stick to your guns whatever you decide. I cant imagine it being the easiest job in the world to be honest and they will probably be used to a high turnover of staff.

You dont have to give a reason or anything like that, but you can if you want.

New jobs are always difficult. Customer service jobs especially. Night shifts tripley. You're exhausted and on the verge of tears because you've been working all night and your body is asking you WTF you're doing. :) It takes time to adjust.

I would urge you to give it a few weeks to get into the swing of it rather than quitting straight out.

That said, if you're set on it, just go in today, look for the manager guy and tell him that it's not going to work out, you won't be coming in.

Whether they expect you to work this weekend is irrelevant, they can't force you to come in if you don't want to.

I recommend you leave and not worry about citing a reason. I think though that if something seriously effected your mental health while working in a fast food restaurant then perhaps you have more underlying issues that you need to sort out. Best of luck.

insensitive post above. we have No idea what the experience was. Violence common late night in fast food joints.
Not everyone is as hard as nails.
Insinuating something wrong with OP is OTT and not helpful in the slightest.

There's a big difference between something happening which upsets you, and something happening which really affects your mental health.

The OP didn't say she's upset. She said she has mental health issues now.

Perhaps someone was stabbed in front of her and she has PTSD now, but I feel she would have mentioned that in her post.

Op is a first year college student and looks to be finding the study and so many hours (especially late hours) too much, which is understandable.

Hi OP, looks like you inadvertently took on too much, just explain this to Eddie Rockets. They will (have to) understand.

If that was me I’d have just not came back. I wouldn’t dwell too much into it tbh, I tried loads of jobs and didn’t feel they were for me so just didn’t go back if it was affecting me that much. I wouldn’t worry even more by thinking how to do it

Text your manager/call your manager and say you apologise but you won’t be back and it’s not for you.

They won’t expect you to work any more shifts

Don’t make yourself worse by forcing yourself to go in/ think about it even more, your mental health comes first! They will manage don’t worry! X

They get a high turnover of staff and more often than not I’d say a new member just doesn’t show up. It’s normal! I done it a few times when I was younger. Just straight out ‘I’m not coming back sorry, thanks for the opportunity anyway’ you’re not forced to do anything and you shouldn’t feel you are
