Hello all, as the title suggests I have recently been granted ill health retirement from the Civil Service. I joined in 2002, used parental leave here and there and have been on sick leave for the last 4 years. I'm a clerical officer, never "acted up" to EO or anything. What kind of pay will I be put on? Pension rate. (like for OAPs)? Or what should I expect, I really don't have a clue. Any advice or help on this matter would be great. Thanks

Does your package not spell this out for you?
It should state any future payments due.

I don't know what you mean by "acted up" to Executive Officer, but it will based on your current grade, CO.

Acting up is a term used in Civil Service if you go up a grade for a short period of time (say if someone is on maternity leave or the like).

No I haven't received my package yet, I wouldn't be on here asking if I had, I'd imagine. Thank you for your help.

the approach can be complicated and uses certain formula.

as you appear top be in the bracket of having 10 to 20 years service I think this means you will be granted a pension equivalent to someone with 20 years service. so around 25% of your salary

as you pay full PRSI you may also qualify for invalidity pension and you should look into this

You should also check if you signed up with an income protection plan through your union. If so, this may 'top up' your entitlements.

You need to speak to your HR and ask them how much will your pension be per week and how much will your lump sum be, this should be put to you before you retire.

You might be entitled to 6.66 years added to your service which will assist with your final pension amount but this depends on your age as retirement age in Civil Service is officially 60. Basically if you are 53.3 years of age or less you will get the 6.66 years added to your service.

Income protection needs to be looked into as does the chance of disability (as both have already been stated).

You should speak with your Employment Assistance Officer - www.cseas.per.gov.ie

Rice wife do you mind me asking how you got on with ill health retirement, i found out today I have no choice and have to retire from my job, i have been out over a year now but after recent test results its not possible for me to return, my service is similar to yours but I am Executive Officer Grade. My pension rate of pay is €100 per week going on that would you know roughly the lump sum figure. I have contacted pensions section but they dont give out the information you dont know how much you get until paperwork is filed and dealt with . We are already in financial bother due to lack of salary and medical expenses, id just love to know what the figure is so I know what i dealing with, im guessing with under 20 years service it is not a lot.

Hi, does anyone on here who previously retired from Civil Service on Ill Health grounds have any stories to share regarding return to work following Ill Health Retirement? I was approved for TCO 2018 and 2019 competitions and finished up my 2019 contract last October. Currently on the panel for TCO 2020 and awaiting results of one other Open Competition for a permanent EO position. The process can be a bit fraught when you are carrying a previous Ill Health status. I am aware of a couple of other cases but would really appreciate hearing of others. Feel free to DM me!.
