Importing a 2007 VW T5?

Hello everyone, I was hoping I could ask for a little bit of advice. My wife and I have lived in France for the last decade, but we are moving back to Ireland (her birthplace) to raise our family. We are just wondering whether or not it's worth it to import our trusty VW T5, seeing as it's past the ten year mark and due to its engine size, it looks like we'd be paying just under a grand a year in tax. But I've heard vague rumours about some guys somewhere who could convert it into a crew cab work vehicle for a fee, and apparently this could bring the tax down to just a few hundred euro?

Has anyone heard anything about this, and could offer some advice?

Or, failing that, does anyone want to a buy a 2007 VW T5?

If it's a left hand drive I can't see what the point would be. It'd be a pain in the ass to drive around Ireland.

Ah right, should have mentioned, the guy I got it off originally imported it from the UK. It's right-hand drive.

Camper tax is only 90 odd. Not sure what's required for reclassification.

You wouldn't get away turning it into a crew cab.

    Laws are too strict now.

As above turning into a camper could be a way but it would need to be done right.

Honestly you would be better off buying a car suitable for your needs here if motor tax is an issue and anything 2008 upwards has a better tax rate obviously depending on it's co2 emissions.
