Hi guys, anyone using one of these?

I dug out one from about 4 years ago and have an indoor aerial plugged into it and then the box plugged to TV via scart.
Most of the channels are visible (it found all TV and radio) but rte1 and rte2 are displayed on the TV as HDTV not compatible. The sound is there. Perfect too.
    All other channels are fine.
Anyone here using a similar setup? Did you overcome this problem?

What box is it (make / model)?

The symptom you describe is that of a DVB-T MPEG2 box.

    Saorview HD channels (RTE1 & 2) require DVB-T MPEG4.

It mustn't support the HD profile, like those Sky 'Picnic' boxes, or whatever they were called ...

It must be longer than 4 years since it was used, or this would have been noticed before.

Dug out the email. I bought it in 2014.
When I follow the link in my email it brings me here.
    https://www.dx.com/p/dvb-t8806-dvb-t-mpeg4-h-264-hd-digital-terrestrial-receiver-w-remote-control-black-189050#.W7pnD5_TU0M

It is exactly the same as what is in front of my eyes here.
Odd. I can hear the two channels. Its just that visual error on the screen.
All other channels are visible including the virgin ones.

A box with the specs. in that link would be fine for all of Saorview.

I'm assuming you didn't have yours working for the HD channels before?

    It should work:
    MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 HP@L4

    Try changing the resolution settings.

On the aerial box you mean is it, or in the TV settings?

If that box isn't displaying the MPEG-4 HD TV channels then most likely it doesn't have the necessary video decoder even if the specs say otherwise.

The box, but try the TV also. It's doubtful it will fix it, as said above it's likely the box doesn't have the HD video decoder.

    Thanks for the help guys.
I am thinking it simply doesn't have the codec so.
There are no resolution setting in the menus.

The problem is in the hardware.

It has the correct codec but at a lower level, MPEG4 HP@L3 (SDTV 576i) instead of MPEG4 HP@L4 (HDTV 1080i).
The box in your link above is probably an updated version with L4.

Yeah I understand you cush. Ah well, it works with all the other channels so i'll have to settle for that

Yeah so not having the two missing channels is more a nuisance than i thought.
Would this box do the job for me?i am confused about dvb t 2 and 4. Also do these boxes record to USB or anything or is a stronger more expensive box needed? Doesnt say it on the eBay link.

Quote from the specs. in the link: 'USB 2.0 for PVR, TIMESHIFT, software upgrades and media file playback'.

And I'd be very surprised if it wasn't capable of handling the Saorview HD material.
