    Hi

I am beyond frustrated with my workplace at present
I work as part of a small core office team, a new colleague has behaved appallingly since day 1, shouting, slamming doors, when I tried to say hello in the morning I would often be blanked, or grunted at. She has tried to destroy my name with my head office team and the rest of the team we work with (non office staff).

She has showed our boss exactly what she is, she refuses to work evenings or weekends, gets into a huff if challenged by the boss in regard to the above.

She has taken all of her annual leave and has been granted weeks of unpaid leave with no hassle, I applied for 6 days of unlaid leave last year and it had to be approved by ceo and big fuss was made.

She claims that she is overloaded with work yet she has expressed an interest in getting involved in area of my work that I happen to really enjoy, the boss has approved this.

She rings Headoffice to complain about everyone, even the boss and he knows this. Yet they all decided to pass her probation and keep her. Her behaviour has not improved, I don't understand any of this, can anyone objectively shed any light on what hell could be going on here?!! I sure don't understand!!

Don't think anyone is that heartless that they'd suggest dumping her.

She must be related to someone important in the company

    She's a woman. #metoo / pregnancy/gender pay gap etc. Take your pick.

That's a very unfair comment and most of us women are genuine people.

    Sounds like my exe lol
Probably more than likely she's a Narcissist sociopath gaslighter and bipolar...

They're the worse people to work with.

I wouldn't take it personal if you can.

Since everyone else is getting it you're not the only one.

Zero eye contact and communication, I had something similar in the workplace, I just compartmentalize it.

Easier said than done, but these people are insidious.
    As little contact as possible...

Everyone, please bear in mind this is an advice forum, not somewhere that you can pepper a thread with sexist quips. Actions like that will incur a warning or an infraction.

Two strange things going on here - (1) That she has behaved so appallingly and in such a brazen way in a probation period, when the vast majority of new employees would be doing their utmost to impress their new workplace colleagues and management ........ and (2) that Senior staff have not yet pulled her up on her behaviour.

Unfortunately none of us know the people involved so we can only guess.

As above, I would harness a guess that she is related to someone in the company. This would explain the lack of disciplinary action against her and also her extremely brazen attitude. I work for a large PLC and at one point the MD's sister in law came to work for us, despite having no experience in our industry whatsoever and also having an extremely abrasive personality. She seemed to get away with blue murder too and it was only because she retired that we ever managed to get rid of her.

The other possibility is that your boss is a very placid type and simply doesn't want to deal with the harsh reality of confronting someone like her. I have seen this in my workplace also, where the most difficult employees get away with it and the more easygoing ones are pulled up on every mistake, which seems entirely the wrong way round. Dealing with a difficult employee often can mean involving HR and going through a lot of red tape too; once you go down that route, there's no going back really. For a senior person who's not so assertive or good at handling aggression and hostility, it's not uncommon for them simply to opt for a quiet life.

The only thing I can think of either she is extremely good at one aspect of her work and management are willing to turn a blind eye to the rest of her behaviour or she is daughter/niece/cousin of someone high up the ladder. I personally despise nepotism as you are essentially given a job for life and you will never ever experience bullying or be pushed out. Plus I couldn't think of anything worse than working with my family, we would kill each other!

If it is the former, then I have seen a lot of cases where someone is essentially a subject matter expert saving the company a fortune or just extremely skilled at one aspect of their job and it gives them a buy to be a complete dcik. Management wont do a thing as they need the skills.

    Hi op here,

Yes I have come to the conclusion that she must be connected or related to someone high up in the company. All of the stress of worrying about what this person is going to do next and the fact that hey are trying to destroy me has caused stress related health issues to flare up this week.

I have decided I don't have the mental energy to fight this battle everyday, as soon as the opportunity arises, I'm out and I'm going to leave.

Clearly someone is not taking their responsibility as manager seriously.
For someone to be genuinely allowed to.behave like this in the workplace is baffling.

Is she a foreign national? This is a.genuine question.
Ive seen people.unwilling to take issue with employees from foreign countries for fear of being accused of being racist.

    Hi,

Yes our manager has failed from day 1 to call her out on her behaviour. When he tries to confront her about things she comes out with strange statements like I'm going to leave or I might not come back etc. He is afraid of her I believe. Add to that he doesn't like conflict, so she has free reign to behave as she wishes. He gives in to every outlandish request she makes, eg sanctioning weeks of unpaid time off, despite the fact she has already used all of her holidays this year. This was to go on holidays not for an emergency.

HR have been very dismissive, they view it as a personality thing, 'ah the two girls don't get along' which is not true, she has come in intent on trying to destroy me professionally from day 1.

It is appalling in this day and age that an individual can behave like this. Really she is a covert bully. I don't know why her probation was passed.

No this lady is not a foreign national, so it's not a race thing.

Several people in the company at every level have told me to watch my back with her.
