Zone changing resistance intermittently..

Europlex/Signet 200 w a zone through an expander whose resistance fluctuates between 2k2, 3k9, 4k6, all the way to 25k when I "Monitor" the zone. (at the moment I have it isolated to prevent false alarms).

It doesn't seem to be the expander because I put a resistor across the terminals and it stayed stable.

Something in the zone, somewhere in the hidden cabling.

Anyone come across this before and any idea of what I shoukd be looking for? It seems odd (maybe it's not?)that a cable would "float" like this...

Its either a faulty sensor, contact or connection on that zone.
Disconnect the zone from the expander & remove any end of line resistors,
Set you meter to continuity and connect the pair to the 2 meter leads.

Make a note of the reading in ohms. One by one tap every sensor & open and close every contact. After a tap or an open close the resistance should return to the around the same value. If it does not disconnect that device , close of the pair wired into it & move on. Replace any units that are faulty.
