    Message boards carry the danger of becoming an echo chamber most people do not post on message boards.

    They provide a view, albeit one of seriously limited scope. All sites have cultures and are often specialised to niche hobbies etc. These will inform the results. For a reliable glimpse of most things going on i the offline world they're next to useless.
