Code read / scanner better than basic

I am looking for a reasonable code reader / diagnostic system that will allow me to diagnose across a good range of cars.

For example say the parking sensors on a mercedes, the codes that a basic obd won't read on an Opel say, or to allow me retract the parking brake on an audi

It is mind boggling really to know which one to go for, say the launch crp 129 or autel maxi check pro.

Anybody got any good suggestions for a good interested amateur?

    thanks

Good tool for diy, and good company as they have regular updates, think it was the right choice
