Manufacturing warranty (used car)

So heres the issue. I have a Mitsubishi outlander (year 2014) which I imported from Arnold Clark in the UK last year. Had the NCT done today and there are serious issues (handbrake not working, back axel buggered).

I will revert to Arnold Clark but tbh I only had a 60 day warranty and I am expecting a feck off response. Can I use the manufacture warranty for the faults? Is this possible given I imported it from the UK? Any clue how I go about trying to get this fixed under warranty?

    Many thanks

Does it have a full Mitsubishi main dealer service history?

nope im afraid not. Will this eliminate the warranty?

Possibly not. I’d take it to your local Mitsubishi dealer, explain the faults and take it from there. You shouldn’t be getting an axle fail after 4 years. Servicing or not.

They have an 8 year warranty IIRC? What mileage is on it? Does the car have any service history logged in your book?

Yep have the service history from the UK detailed in the book. 55k miles on the clock. Sorry I don't know what IIRC is??

Should I give the dealer a ring before I go in as I thought they might tell me to pi++ off due to me buying the car in the UK?

    Thanks a million

IIRC = if I remember correctly

Yeh, give them a call or else drop into them. I’d drop in personally. The manufacturer warranty is usually transferable even though you bought in the UK so should not be an issue going to local main dealer.

You might get some kick back from them as I seem to remember a condition of the warranty is that you get a Mitsubishi health check every year from a main dealer.

Definitely no harm going into them though for a chat and see what they’ll do under warranty.

What exactly were the handbrake and axle faults picked up in the test?

sorry a bit new to this! Thanks for the reply.

There is a 33% imbalance in the rear axis accounting for a "major" fail in the NCT. The parking brake is at 11% and another "major" fail in the NCT. in fairness I have noticed this myself when parking up. doesn't really work. I will pop in with it and see what they say. Thanks a million

Sounds like the car needs some routine maintenance more than a fault with the car. A decent mechanic would be able to adjust your handbrake and look at your rear brakes for a possible seized caliper.

If you rear axle was fecked your side slip would be showing a fail(top section of the test sheet)

I agree with knifey_spoonie. These items sound more like service items. With those symptoms it could be a sticking caliper or worn down brake pads causing the imbalance and poor handbrake effort for example.

You still could go to your Mitsubishi dealer for peace of mind but expect to pay more than a good independent garage. As it’s a four year old car and you’re not trying to maintain a main dealer service history, I’d be inclined to bring it to a good independent mechanic if you know one.

Both of those items should be simple fixes for a good mechanic.

    Best of luck

8 year warranty on them is an Ireland thing AFAIK.

Irish Mitsubishi's have an 8 year warranty. UK have only 5 year, both of these warranties are subject to you presenting the vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer every year for a free vehicle health check. Hand brake imbalance would possibly be a siezed lever on the caliper, seen it a few times.
