Trying to balance living up a mountain with owning an EV....

Renault Zoe, needs new front tyres so considering putting All Weathers on. I've had All Weathers on all my cars previously but never had to balance the need for good rolling road resistance. Michelin CrossClimates look promising being B rated?

Has anyone put All Weathers on an EV or have any suggestions for other brands?

    Up a mountain?

Put on 4 winter tyres. Tomorrow morning would be a good time to do it. Frost is coming tomorrow night.

Electric cars are used in Norway, Canada etc etc.....temp registered in some of the car at -25 to -30 outside.....all are running on winter tires without any issues.....

Living up a hill in Ireland shouldn't be a problem.....

loads of options but best to check on some of the Worldwide forums for the specific car and ask the question

I was looking at the CrossClimates specifically because they are winter rated but don't have to be pulled off the car in March liked full on winters (been there, done that with the whole two sets of rims scenario for my previous 4x4) - I'll have a look around and see what full winter options are available and weigh up the costs

I don't know what mountain you are on, and how high up you are, but if you have serious snow and ice every year (like you would have in the Wicklow mountains over about 500-600m altitude) then I would go for full winters on a 2WD car

Can we really class any of the big hills in Ireland a mountain? when I see some of the posts from around the World in regards to conditions people drive cars everyday it is a bit embrassing when we get a flutter of snow and the place shuts down.....

Ah but everywhere else is actually prepared for snow and treats roads accordingly - I've lived in USA where a few feet of snow is business as usual.

Currently based on a road off the Sally Gap so have about 12km to do on ungritted roads before I hit a treated road for the rest of the commute. Only put full winter tyres on a 4x4 (Patrol) previously and hedged my bets with all weathers otherwise. I'm going to look more into winters vs all weathers for the Zoe - even on the standard Michelin EV tyres in the snow it was admirable at not feeling skittish and getting up hills

There's your answer for you. Winters! :)

You're not up on the Wicklow mountains much in winter, are you? ;)

Good friend of mine was in Wicklow mountain rescue for a long time. He compares them (max altitude in Wiclow is only 925m) to the lower Alps (say 3000m) climate wise in winter

Anyone who has been up any of the higher summits in snow / ice will understand...
