Views on this. Looking for something that feels high spec but is within the budget. Torn between this and the Prius. It's for city driving so I know a Prius is probably more sensible. My head says Prius, my heart says this! https://m.carsireland.ie/detail-images.php?ad_id=2121618

Is there a reason you want a diesel for city driving?
Electric/petrol/hybrid is possibly a better option.

It makes no sense to buy a diesel just for city driving.

I do however understand what op is saying about the non luxury feel of the Prius, it feels awful like a corolla to drive and be in. The Volvo is definitely providing a luxury feel for modest money, it’s just that diesel isn’t for city driving.

Is there any better options for a luxury feel without someone recommending a €70k Tesla.

The outlander phev, how high spec does that come ??

I drive a 2011 s60 D3. It's been a very good car. Bought it as a 3 year old with 45k km on the clock. It's currently at 155k km with no major repairs carried out. Very comfortable and power if required. My driving involves city driving Mon to Fri and a 240 km round trip every weekend. Generally get guts of 2 weeks from a full tank. Previous cars were bmw 320d and a metc c180 petrol . Prefer it over those.

Yes this is it exactly. Would be purely city driving so I know the Volvo is not the sensible choice. But I'd really love a bit of luxury. Is it possible to get a luxurious feeling hybrid for circa 12k!?

That’s nicely finished inside. Not sure if it would give Volvo luxury feel but it would certainly win my vote over a Prius any day.

Outlander PHEV is not within budget for OP.

If you want "luxurious" feel for around 10K or so then older Volvo/Saab/Mercedes is the way to go imo.
    Lots gadgets and comfy seats.

That said, check electric/hybrids thus https://www.donedeal.ie/cars?fuelType=Hybrid&fuelType=Electric

OP, forget about diesel for city driving.

What about the Lexus CT200h? Mechanically it's basically a Prius but has the more premium feel your looking for.

    For example:

You might get a slightly newer one if your willing to import from the UK.

didnt want to create separate topic but looking at c30 volvos 2010-11 some are going peanuts cheap with 1.6 diesels, only one thing i have 0 experience with diesel engines would 150k miles be a high mileage for them models, and in general how do they handle high mileage.

not to intrude on OPs post but any comment/input appreciated.

That 1.6 diesel engine is found in the likes of the Fords, Peugeot, Citroen, Mazdas, etc. It doesn't have a great track record for reliability. The C3 is also very small inside, it's strictly a 4 seater and the boot is tiny. Volvo parts can be very pricey too and some are only sourced through dealers.

thx space isnt an issue as im small myself and not driving much stuff, just wondering is worth a go as never had diesel but reading forums ive often seen that some can do 300k easily but wonder is it up to higher sized ones, as 150+ on the clock its hard to know how worn it can be at that stage.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to how long an engine will last. There are also other components in a car that don't all wear out at the same time or mileage.

That's not bad at all for the money

    I bought a 2012 s60 r-design about 6 months ago and I fecking love it.

On holidays at the moment coming back tomorrow and I can't wait to pick it back up from the quick park!

I was originally looking at the v40's but the s60 came up during a search and bought it the next day!
