I've been using the eCars app. Not perfect, but I find it reasonably up to date although it can be a few minutes out.

Some people swear by Zap Map. I presume it uses the data from the ESB, so if eCars app is a few minutes out, so must this be? What is the benefit of using this app in Ireland apart from it having user comments?

One example against using Zap Map

The busiest FCP in Ireland (Lucan) has been broken for CCS charging for about a month now. I have reported this several times to eCars. They have duly marked it as out of service and they have explained to me that the manufacturer is trying to repair it. It is working fine for CHAdeMO / fast AC charging though

The same FCP looks fine on Zap Map, although I have reported it not working for CCS several times over the past week. When I do, it is marked as not working but soon after Zap Map seems to switch it back to working ok automatically. Why? You can see my comments, look for yourself. Looks like Zap Map is not working as it supposed to?

Any thoughts? What do you use?

None of them, better things to be doing that seeking out charge points and finding them out of action for one reason or another, if we need a journey that requires a charge then we simply take the ICE.
The rapid in Athlone must be at least a month out of action now.
Given up on the infrastructure TBH, and I've no issue with that as our needs are a roundaround and I would always advise to only buy a EV if you never need to rely on the infrastructure

Good for you to have a backup car, but some of us can only afford to run one family car. And if that's an EV, we rely on charging when we go beyond the range of our car!

At a guess they see a positive comment from someone else on ChaDeMo and put it back in service or the data they are receiveing from the eCars API is showing it as in-service so they auto update it again as in-service.

You could very well be right. That would be a major bug though, surely somebody would have spotted that / reported that by now and it would have been fixed?

Forgot about that one. I signed up in the past, but didn't end up using it. I've installed it just now and it looks like it is even worse than Zap Map

The above charger has 4 green lights from a person with an Ioniq EV (CCS) successfully having "checkins", all in the last week. While we all know the CCS charger was down all that time. This looks like people had their phone physcically near the charger, but is no indication at all of having a successful charge. Look for yourself to see what I mean

Tried zap map. No good where I am. Ecars while not great is better.

Zap Map + Plugshare for me.

Zap Map is updated from the same source as cpinfo.ie - ecars uses the same source but seems slower and theres no option for users to mark CP as "issue reported" so I cannot rely on the ecars app.

I have tried the Lucan chademo twice in the last two weeks using a Tesla adapter. It stops charging after 2-3 mins. Kwhr meter on the charger shows 51kw when charging, might be a bit high.

I know the Tesla adapter is temperamental. New lands won’t charge at all and mayfield works fine.
