Simple question can you scrap a UK car in Ireland? How does the process work?

Having been through the process of scrapping a car recently. You need to provide the registration details, such as the log book. You'll be better off calling a scrap yard to see if they can accept foreign registered cars.

No I scrapped an Irish reg car. But they've still got to receive those documents and be able to process them. You're better off calling some to check if they can do it.

Fill in the V5C/3 thats on your UK V5, get the ELV to sign it as noted. Send off to the DVLA with a copy of the ELV cert. Job done...worry no more.

    UK gov information here.
It doesn't say anything about providing the DVLA with a certificate from the ATF (the breakers). Which is good news; it's unlikely an IRL breakers would be recognised by UK DVLA.

I would be very careful to use a reputable breakers and ensure I got an official receipt\certificate - just in case.

Also read the directions on your V5 (is it still called a V5?)
Be sure to notify the DVLA and send them whatever portion of the V5 they require.
You could phone the DVLA. I've always found them helpful the few times I asked for advice.

I don't think it matters a fig to the UK DVLA what you do with a car out of their jurisdiction, I think it's the Irish authorities you have to satisfy that the car has been scrapped properly, I suggest asking them, although they might ask why it was here and why it hadn't had VRT paid on it.

Not so. The DVLA will chase the registered keeper for motor tax or for not declaring SORN. I strongly advise notifying DVLA of the scrapping.
The Irish authorities have no record of the vehicle.

I assume that bridge has already been crossed, the car declared SORN and the question now is how he can dispose of it. He can of course send off the permanent export section of the V5C which sorts that matter.
