I dunno, exciting time to be alive in my opinion. If I remember right 1996, for example, was p1ss boring by comparison. Very beige.

If we live through it, itll be something interesting tell your wide eyed grandkids about, a bit like running hooch in the prohibition era, or trying to keep one step ahead of the Tans.

I say IF we live through it, as civilisation reaches these watershed moments every few generations, a lurch to the right, demagoguery, fear and loathing in Las Vegas, you know the sort of thing. It usually takes a big dust up to sort out the fascists and move the species on to the next plane of enlightenment.

That's my point. The reason why the 2010s are not as revered as positively as the 1990s economic boom is because of that issue. Ireland might be different, but for the rest of the world, wage growth for the UK and the US has been pretty anemic and sluggish.

Wage growth in the US was far stronger in the 1990s than it is today. That was Obama's biggest economic weakness and hence why his approval ratings for a lot of his presidency (mostly in the 40s) were nowhere near that of Bill Clinton (well into the 60s).

Thanks for humouring me. An Irish wage earner in the last few years is getting slightly more discretionary income if he isn’t renting. He’s much poorer if he is. Inflation statistics don’t include rent. Which is justifiable in some ways as not everybody pays rent but useless to those that do.

However gdp and gnp per capita is still largely meaningles to most.
