Farnsworth lantern test

    Has anyone any experience with this test? I've been checking out videos on YouTube and some are easy to see and some are much harder. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on how difficult this is in comparison to the ishihara plates.

    Apparently 1/3 of the people that fail the ishihara test can pass progress through the lantern test. They are only mildly deficient.

    Best option if you fail ishihara is to take the CAD couloir vision test in. Gatwick with the UK CAA. Been there done that.
    I have tried a number of other tests and it’s by far the best. But do it before brexit if needed and transfer medical records back to the IAA, who knows what will happen after that with acceptance of licences and Medicals

    Hi, thanks for the reply. I've been recommended to Gatwick to take s City University test. I failed the lantern test last week having troubles with green and white. The lantern test is much harder than those online.

    Did you attempt the lantern test?

    Sorry for slow reply,
    I took lantern test and no joy! CAD is basically a screen showing I think 9 or 16 square with a colour dot moving across the screen in different directions, you have a key pad and you press the corosponding arrow to indicate the movement if you saw it . The first test does red green testing, and then you do the same test with yellow and blue. It gives you a tolerance of how colour blind you colour safe you are

    Oh by the way, if it’s just the colour vision that’s worrying ye, you can go to Gatwick and do just a CAD test and do the rest of the medical another day. Just not to waste a few hundred pounds if you didn’t pass the CAD. I did this.
    Then when guy get your class 1, just contact the IAA about transferring if from UZk CAA to the IAA.
    Try do it all including transferring before Brexit.

    Any idea how renewals work in the IAA with vision that wouldn't meet their interpretation of the standards? It'll be recorded in your medical file when it's transferred to the IAA. Or is it a case of hope that you're never sent for a full eye test again?

    Once you have a full class 1 EASA they must accept it and all the other EASA member states. Plain and as simple as that. Sane with licence, ratings etc, just you will have to trsnsfer your files as required

    I asked this on my recent visit the the aeromedical centre. He said it's very unusual for renewals to be tested on colour vision, but in instances they do you will have to go back abroad and do it. He was sure regulations will soon change to allow colour vision glasses to pilots.

    Rob, did you try the city university test as well as the CAD? I was recommended the city university test

    People thought that about theory exam certs. All EASA all same syllabus. But the IAA stopped accepting CAA certs one day, no notice, no warning, no explanation.
