Hi all. We are currently fostering a Dog, we have her two weeks and we brought her to be groomed today.
She was spayed two weeks ago, as a foster I collected her directly from the vets (and I never thought to ask but I'm guessing the vet gave her all her shots and spot on etc, I'll call tomorrow to check that).
We also have 2 dogs of our own.
I've been very close with all dogs and brush/examine them closely every day, and examined the wee foster pup closely after coming from kennels.
This evening I've seen a few fleas on her and what is possibly a small nest or something under one ear where a small bit of matting was cut away.

I don't know how the groomer could have missed It, but they said nothing when I picked her up.

What's the best course of action here? I've never had to deal with it as we've been religious with prevention with our own dogs.

Good idea to call the vet regarding the shots. We used Frontline Plus (monthly topical treatment) for our shih-tzu and it worked beautifully. Perhaps your fostering agreement includes all medications? Flea prevention most definitely would be a needed medicine, imo. Website says it's safe for puppies 8 weeks and older and can be used as early as 2 days old (probably for infestation reasons.)

Spot on for everyone, and hot wash all your dogbeds I guess

Worth calling the groomer for a discussion - and use/not use them again based on their attitude

Also worth calling the vet to ask if the dog was treated, and what with... if it was 2 weeks ago, the treatment should have started to work by now???

With the mild weather I assume theres still plenty of fleas about at the moment - which reminds me one of my lot are due to be flea treated as of yesterday

    Thanks all.
The groomer said she 'fogged' both dogs as standard part of the groom. Our dog had no fleas but she removed quite a few from the foster. She said anything coming off her now is dying.
I've booked all 3 into the vet for the morning to get decent spot on treatments to be safe.
I've boil washed all the bedding and sprayed/hovered the rug & sofa. Luckily all other floors are hardwood or tiles.

I went through all dogs again today with flea comb. None on our two and only found one on the foster, it was alive but barely.

I'm hoping I've covered all bases.
    Anything else I should Do?

I'm itchy just thinking about the little buggers😣

Funny how everyone feels itchy when fleas are an issue. Yuk! Sounds like you've done all you can/should.

No need to bring the dogs to the vet for flea treatments : just go an collect yourself, and put it on their scruffs when you get home. I put the vials in the pocket of my jeans to get the liquid to blood temp so that they don't get a fright when you squirt cold liquid on them 8-)

Just as an aside, what did the groomer "fog" them with? If there are no fleas and the foster has been treated by groomer maybe avoid any more chemicals? Though if you're freaked and itchy you'll want to treat them no doubt. I'm trying to avoid chemicals on my tribe: if no sign on flea combs I don't treat....

I was thinking that too, if our groomers fogged our lad as protocol I’d be livid.

I’d know in an instant if we had a flea issue as I get welts/ allergic reaction if bitten.

Have just spend the last two nights de-fleaing our idiot as he picked up a hedgehog that was crawling. He is treated but didn'twant them in the house so we spend ages picking the most of them off and then he had a flea bath last night.
    Fecking fool of a dog!
