Great idea. Any idea of costs? I tried going to nmd website but no details. I can't read any more information off the picture.

No charge for charging or parking. Courtesy of the nice people at DLR CoCo.

    Joe Mc Carty involvement too.
There is also none in swords, just off Main Street.

I believe they are a trial basis currently and you have to register online to use it.
You can pull up, and ore book 1-2 hours of charging. Currently free but I don’t know what the costs in the future will be.

Not sure if pay and display parking ticket has to be displayed either.

    https://evcharge.online/UserAccount/dashboard

UKEV0974 Is the code for the DLRCC charge point.

i note the road markings say EV charging only. I guess that rules out use by PHEV drivers?

There's an EV in PHEV so they are covered. Also the road markings can't override legislation which lets any vehicle park which can propel itself on electricity only

Used it at the weekend - register online on EVcharge and select one or two hours. Cost crrently set to zero. It was unclear if parking payment was required but we were there on Sunday during a no charge period anyway.

The picture on that linked page has an Outlander PHEV, but the charging cable is heading off to the rear left wheel instead of going into the charging port, which is staring, unused, out of the pic.

Are these going to show on ZapMap? If not they are pretty useless as no one will know where they are.

I used it to (unashamedly) charge a Niro PHEV - it's a destination charger after all!

It was easy enough to find, it's painted bright green so stands out well

You must be tired or drunk, or a mixture of both!, I put the link and the specific code for the DLRCC charger up last night at 10.26pm :)

Ha neither, but I obviously missed your link!

Only picked up on todays posts on this thread and I got set back by the comment from Springwell: "register online on EVcharge"

    Google doesn't know EVcharge...

Does the lamp post have one or two sockets(cant tell from the pic)?
Do you know if its 3.3kW or 7kW in each socket?

Like you said, one thing I like about that lamp post is that you will be able to identify it at a distance as an EV charging lamp post.

A few times I've used the eCars SCP's in places I havent been to before it can be hard to find exactly where it is, as they are below car height so you are scouting along a street or around a car park to find it.

A high lamp post painted different to the others is an easy visual aid.

    More of this, I say!

Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. No parking fee while charging in a marked bay.

Excellent. Now is it too much to ask if Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council could be a little bit less publicity horny and a bit more concentrated on policing the existing charge points? They are always ICEd. Wicklow county council seems to do a much better job as the Bray promenade chargers are rarely ICEd...

I am going to hijack the thread here a bit, do you know what the parking policy in Bray is regarding paid parking while charging?

Yeah free. It is one of the very few times I bother slow charging my car. It is very handy for a hike up Bray head and for the cliff walk to Greystones as well as for some time spent in Bray itself.

I live in Bray and just bought a Leaf, but I could not find anything. No limit for parking (I know it is 2 or 3 hr in Dundrum)?

The one I use is beside the Strand hotel, but according to the ESB ecars map (that you might not yet be familiar with) there are 5 slow chargers in Bray! I don't think there's a limit for parking, but I leave that one for people who know for sure to come back here.

bray is pretty good for destination charging, they are usually not iced but they are busy enough spots.

Novara ave and library are frequently iced, the latter often by a car with Green Party markings ironically. The fast charger in Tesco used often to be out of order for CCS without being marked so by e-cars so I never rely on it. The rest of the chargers in bray are grand; and close enough to each other that if one is busy another isn’t too far away. Now if only there was a charger in Greystones.

As a general rule of thumb, public parking outside of Co Dublin is free while charging an EV, inside is not. Bear in mind that some locations are privately owned (e.g. Irish Rail car parks) where policy is different again. With local authorities it's fluid and incoherent, so best to assume nothing, and phone the local authority in question.

I don't rely on ecars app for anything, Zap map is where its at.
I generally use the one on the promenade opposite sealife near the yummy gelato shop :)

Charged today. Beautiful day today. Went for a nice walk on the pier.

Not sure if I needed to pay for parking while charging, so I did pay. Can anyone clarify?

My timing turned out to be fortunate. I returned to a 99% charged car :)

Great initiative from DLR. A shame Dublin City Council can’t do something similar. It was discussed at the Transport SPC recently but there seems to be little will to progress.

Wonder how much each pole is costing and how feasible it is for wider roll out.

@Unkel it's free while charging in DLR, and it's usually free everywhere on Sundays anyway!

I think a better solution for DCC is the Dundee style charging hubs. On street urban charging was needed in 2015. The bigger range cars make hubs viable.

    Few of questions...
Did it charge at full rate, i.e. 7kw?
There's a single socket per pole, or is the another one on the other side?
Looks like the pole doesn't match the existing lamp posts in the are, either in design or colour?

While my opinion on the last question is subjective, some Irish towns are an eyesore of random single-use poles.

Single outlet. Special pole needed with LED street light on top.
It is a special purpose pole. I assume if you want to match the rest of the "street furniture" you could replace all poles with and without charging outlet, however pole with outlet is green, so you may end up with some green and some non green.

Personally I believe home charging, and fast charging is the future, not destination slow charging, nor work charging, as the range of future EVs should cover 99% of daily needs with home charging, the only exception being country wide trips and back again the same day.

The locations of these chargers are marked on the app called "plugshare" which has ESB eCars and non ESB chargers. I have submitted it to zapmap app for inclusion also.

Apparently the one on chapel lane in swords has a button on it for activation, and was installed by a different organisation, although it is practically identical.

Home charging isn’t an option for lots of people as they live in apartments or only have on street parking.

Fast charging works best along motorways where customers can buy other things like food and coffee from the provider. I can’t see standalone fast chargers working in urban areas.

We need a range of charging options.

Street light charging trial coming to Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, covered in the minutes of the Transportation SPC. Hopefully the first of many.

Couldn't agree more as I once again drove around the city looking for an on-street SCP only to find them blocked by a combination of Go-Cars parked but not charging, PHEVs parked and charging / not charging and BEVs. We need a substantial increase in the volume of on-street SCPs in the city to cater for this demand.

Personally I get really frustrated when I see BEVs / PHEVs parked in on-street SCP spots when not charging especially as many of these spots are clearly marked 'Charging Only' and there are free car park spaces available nearby.

Can I ask if anyone knows if all Fingal Co. Co. spots are free parking while charging eg ones in swords outside eddie rockets etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,821 ✭✭✭Silent Running

Just in case anybody doesn't know, Waterford CoCo allow full electric cars to park for free in any council controlled public parking.

Charging bays are for cars that are actually charging. This means that drivers of EVs don't need to plug into a charger just to get free parking, keeping the charging bays free for those that need them.
