They bring in more ****e they'd want to be upping the compensation. Nothing for lost milk sales. Cow's over a certain age only getting cull price regardless of whether or not they are in calf. Proposals like this reduce the value of the herd as well.

In the link below, proposals are being discussed to grade each herd in the country according to their history of TB breakdowns. Those with a history of TB could find themselves restricted to only buying stock from highly rated herds and selling only to lower rated herds.

How is this going to work in marts with cattle of different status mixing and marts unable to confirm the relative status of purchasers until after the sale?
Radical TB plan could restrict reactor herds

it'll be a nightmare to run!

I can see guys getting new herd numbers etc to get around it so it'll have to be linked into parcel ids too.

nice to see that they're thinking of ways to sort it though

    This sounds awful.

So if I’m graded medium I can only sell to lower ranked farms, who have probably have the life squeeze out of them already and can’t pay for stock anyway.

    It’s unworkable.

It’d make contract rearing a bigger minefield

I don't see how that's workable. Unless you'd have to TB test animals pre-sale.

Down 4 times last ten years, still haven't sold an animal that went down in another herd
