It irritates me to see this being held on International Men's Day.
    Description

The Health Service Executive invites you to join with leading Irish men and Irish women to talk about the need for Gender Equality with the Men's Development Network CLG on International Men's Day and to highlight International White Ribbon Day 2018 to End Men’s Violence Against Women and Girls and to promote Gender Equality

What are the chances the HSE would hold an event about ending Women's violence against Men and Boys on International Women's Day?

    From the Irish Times
What are the downsides of being a man in 2018?
As International Men’s Day approaches we want to hear from readers
    Wed, Nov 14, 2018, 11:31

Monday, November 19th is International Men’s Day. As British commentator Caitlin Moran recently observed, we frequently discuss the downsides of being a woman but what is not discussed as often are the difficulties faced by men. Do people always expect you to have an opinion on football? Are you wary of walking behind a woman on a dark street in case she is fearful? Are you worried about saying the wrong thing in relation to #MeToo? Do you struggle with your mental health? Let us know using this form, and we’ll publish a selection of the responses on International Men’s Day.

What are the downsides of being a man in 2018?

How about discussions on women’s violence against men or how child custody case outcomes are overwhelmingly biased against fathers?

    A seminar on single fathers?

A frank and honest appraisal as to why, when put in a room with toys such as dolls houses, Barbie dolls, kitchen appliances, action figures, matchbox cars and construction related toys, boys will nearly always go for the latter three?

    Fat chance.

In my workplace there's a talk being held on 'changing negative gender stereotypes' or some bs. What a load of feminised crap.

Why not hold a lecture on some great men who displayed male virtues like courage, self sacrifice, honour etc?

If I recall correctly, it trended in Ireland on Twitter last year.
It could do it again if people tweet using the hashtag or retweet tweets that use the hashtag.

International Men’s Day: Do we need a men’s movement and other questions
On Monday we have a day to celebrate men but maybe it’s better if we ask ourselves some questions

    https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/people/international-men-s-day-do-we-need-a-men-s-movement-and-other-questions-1.3696513

Here's the start, which gives a flavour of how he thinks:
This Monday, on International Men’s Day (IMD) on November 19th, we will be encouraged to celebrate men. I’ve never been a fan of this day after all we have 364 other days of the year which favour us men.

Well-known Irish men give their thoughts on what it means to be a man

    Monday, November 19, 2018 - 12:00 AM

On International Men’s Day, Donal O’Keeffe asked some well-known Irish men for their thoughts on what it means to be a man, and what they’d tell their younger selves about masculinity
    https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/lifestyle/features/well-known-irish-men-give-their-thoughts-on-what-it-means-to-be-a-man-886147.html

I didn't find much that is particularly groundbreaking in this. Was frustrated our President chose to give a sermon like this for international Men's Day
    President Michael D Higgins

Since 2015, I have been, at the request of the UN under-secretary general, and executive director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka, one of the Champion World Leaders of the “HeforShe” campaign. This global campaign has the engagement of men and boys at its core, seeking to bring one half of humanity together in support of the other half of our human family.

Sabina and I are also supporters of the “Man Up” movement, which promotes the role men can play in ending domestic violence. Gender should never be an obstacle.

If we wish to achieve the immense potential of Ireland and all our people, we need to address — and remove — the barriers that people experience when seeking to achieve full participation in the decision-making processes that affect their lives.

We must engage institutions and organisations that are in a position to influence change within communities, and focus on those settings where women are most vulnerable to gender inequality and discrimination.

The change we are looking for cannot be achieved simply by laws, policies or funding; Social change is necessary, as well as a change in consciousness. We must learn to respect and be comfortable with diversity.

One step in achieving that change is the building of an environment where men feel comfortable, and empowered, to identify themselves as feminists and as champions of women’s rights.

I would say to young men — and to men of all ages — that your assistance, your new thinking and your actions are all necessary if we are to join with the more than 50 per cent of humanity who are being excluded from their full rights.

We are all social beings. We achieve fulfilment through each other. We depend on each other and we thrive on a sense of solidarity with others.

As a nation, and as communities, we are at our best when we share not only our successes but also our vulnerabilities. It is by being open to our differences and by supporting others in overcoming their vulnerabilities that we can build a true Republic of real equality.

Work have decided that Yorkie bars (seriously) was the correct way to celebrate this today. I'm expecting how to clean your house talks for International Womens Day with that attempt.

    Never turn down free chocolate!
Also, it's still better than some of the efforts listed above (I'm assuming they're not telling you not to batter women with them when they hand you the Yorkie).

    ‘Men’s biggest problem is men’
Most of the downsides are internal and personal rather than social or political. Socially and politically I do just fine. Wherever I look I see men like me running stuff. However, internally I struggle. I believe many men do, and a lot of men’s rights/resentment activists suffer from this. It’s easy to see women doing better being in charge, and fearing this change. This aspect doesn’t bother me too much. My wife earns more than me, but her job is harder. I cook because I enjoy it and she hates it. We’ve no kids, but I plan to be an equal partner in child rearing. However, I struggle to express myself to my partner. To avoid coming off as dismissive or chauvinistic with colleagues makes me reluctant to express opinions. I don’t want to be accused of mansplaining. So I wait for someone to ask my opinion rather than offer one. I don’t think it’s a political-correctness minefield. That’s a lazy response. I think it’s that men aren’t equipped with the vocabulary or skills to navigate the world. A lot of trying to be “woke” is shutting up. Which is grand. When I talk to other men about it, it’s like they’re plugged directly into a Jordan Peterson YouTube fan-boy video. It’s really shocking. I think, Let’s talk about us. And the response is, Oh, we have it so bad. Men’s biggest problem is men. Or ourselves. – Kevin Doyle, Co Dublin
I found this interesting. It looks to me like being influenced by feminist thought has left him feeling restricted in his willingness to give his opinions because he is a man.

Why is the White Ribbon campaign, whose role is exclusively to speak about mens violence towards women, and who seem neutral as regards womens violence towards men, mentioned in "international mens day"?

Moreover what exactly are they fundraising for that they need donatins. They seem to get funding from cosc and the hse, and they dont offer individual services or shelters or anything like that. They have a blog which has about one article a year. Very vague as to who is involved in the organisation etc. It looks like yet another organisation that is looking for money to raise their profile to raise more money to raise their profile more etc etc

RTE News had a feature of waking the feminist today. No mention at all of international men's day. Personally speaking i don't really give a damn about men's day. But i am absolutely sick to death of the relentless focus on women's issues in the media. It is non stop. There is not a day goes by without seeing or hearing about some feminist cause or gripe. Do they really believe women's lives are so awful and difficult that it needs to be highlighted every day.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I'm sick to death of the constant barrage of negativity towards men, daily demonisation.

First thing I hear on the radio this morning is a debate on domestic violence and the damning statistics. Don't get me wrong, domestic violence towards women and men is abhorrent and should be condoned. But this constant media coverage of women's issues and the complete lack of coverage of mens issues is, in itself, discriminatory.

Us men are, for the most part, good people. We're fathers, sons, brothers. We're not the misogynistic, barbarians the media and feminist groups make us out to be.

I really worry about the future of my son and other young boys in this country/world we live in.
