Threaded rod

Hi all,

We have some wardrobes and the hollow cylindrical clothes rail spans too long of a distance from one side to the other meaning that it bends and collapses when fully loaded.

I don’t want to support it in the middle via a hanger.

I’ve been looking for a length of threaded bar to put into the rail to support it.

I need a length of 64 inches but am strugglung to find anywhere that does long enough pieces.

Any ideas?

Just use a threaded bar joiner, they are readily available

Threaded bar wont be strong enough, as suggested use rebar, thickest you can use in the sleeve

In my experience these dont bend at all.

Most hardware shops carry galvanised steel tubing or piping, which is way heavier and stronger than the chrome tubing that comes in wardrobes.
Chances are you will get one that matches the width of your current tube, it should suffice your job.

You can get that in all sorts of lengths. But maybe not long enough for op

If its bowing in the middle with weight on it then your overloading it. If you use a better quaility bar you are only going to overload it more and the screws will not hold the brackets on the carcass of the wardrobe and result in a damaged side panels.
Just put less heavier gements on the rail.

Yes or in my case, bracket just disintegrated allowing the whole lot onto the floor.
Definitely consider altering the bracket each side to strengthen.

Can I ask why you wouldnt just put a central support on it.

If you could get dowel to match the middle of the hollow bar then your Golden.

But the most obvious choice would be conduit the steel kind comes in huge lengths and stronger than your clothes.

Oval one 64 inches long will calve.

Use an eye bolt midway with a large washer to spread the load, instead of trying to spec a bar that won't bend under load.
